Wedding Trends for 2008

The holidays have come and gone and now you’re ready to make your wedding day dreams come true. You are on the look out for hot new trends this upcoming wedding season. So, what wedding trends can you expect to see this year?

This year we can expect to see the evolution of color in the wedding palette. Destination weddings will continue to be a hot trend, as well as the couples’ attitude of “It’s all about Me.!”

Wedding Color Palette

Last year browns and champagnes came on the scene in everything from flower designs and bridesmaids gowns, to invitations and tuxedos. Well, this year’s hot colors will be: Stainless Steel Grey, deep Plum, wild Tangerine and Celery Green.

Stainless Steel Grey:

For a sophisticate, urban-chic look add a touch of stainless steel grey. This color mixes well with deep plums and garnet reds, or soften the look with light pink or light blue. Think about a grey tuxedo vest or jacket, add it to your invitations, or think about a chiffon overlay for your tables.

Deep Plum:

For a more dramatic look to add a rich deep plum color to your wedding palette. This color works well when mixed with deep reds. You can “warm up” the look by adding a butter yellow or lilac color to the mix. Use this deep plum for a fall or winter wedding.  This color can be incorporated to create dramatic flower designs and wedding décor, or select a bridesmaid dress in this gorgeous color.

Wild Tangerine:

This fun filled color inspires a festive feeling to any wedding. Use it to liven up your wedding cake, or let it make a bold statement in the reception linens. If you are having an outdoor wedding, consider using this color as an aisle runner.

Celery Green:

The use of green is no surprise in the wedding palette. However, this lighter, brighter version creates a more lively feeling. Consider using this color with white to create a serene feel or add two tone shade of pink for a modern English garden feeling. Create a seaside effect my mixing in a deep blue and turquoise color. This versatile color can easily be incorporated into any aspect of your wedding.

Destination Weddings

Destination wedding locations have been gaining speed for the last couple of years. Tropical locations, such as Hawaii or Jamaica have always been popular. However, couples are looking to more exotic locations, such as Spain, Italy or Ireland. They are skipping the warm weather and waterfalls, for architectural backdrops and vast cultural traditions. These locations offer lush landscapes, rich in history with a sophisticated, enchanted feel.

Destination weddings have also helped couples create a more private affair with close family and friends. These week long celebrations allow the bride and groom to have more time with their guests, while someone else takes care of the details. Destination décor incorporate local cuisine, music and native flowers. Click Here to Read More on Destination Décor.

“It’s all about Me!”

Now granted, a wedding should reflect the couples personality and interests, but today’s affairs are taking it to a whole new level. Monograms on anything and everything puts a “you” mark on everything. Monograms have appeared on linens, in floral sculptures, on matchbooks and in cake toppers.

Couples have gone to include a detailed slide show or a video showing their life and how they meet, group this together with individualized table markers for a winning combination. Not only does this allow guests to share in your history, it also provides great conversion pieces to encourage guests to mingle.

When it comes to food, many couples have created menus around family recipes or their favorite foods. So, who needs a cake, if you love ice cream? Create an elaborate ice cream bar and allow guests to choose their favorite flavor. If you do opt for a family recipes consider making a miniature “cookbook” booklet for your guests as favors.
